Essiac tea is an herbal remedy that originates from Canada. Essiac tea is
typically made using four herbs, which must be organic: burdock root,
sheep sorrel, slippery elm and Indian (Turkish) rhubarb root.

Canadian nurse Rene Caisse treated her cancer patients with, natural, inexpensive tea for fifty years free of charge. She had the support of many renowned scientists, respected doctors and cancer survivors but her treatment was not recognised by medical establishment.
What makes essiac tea so unique, what its health benefits are and how you can make this beverage at home?
Indigenous Ojibwa tribe of Canada used herbal teas for boosting health and well-being from ancient times. In 1922 nurse from Ontario named Rene Caisse reportedly obtained the recipe from the tribe.
Essiac, which is Caisse spelled backward, was then given to the nurse’s cancer patients, some of whom exhibited promising results. Because of its success in treating cancer effectively, essiac tea was promoted for mainstream use to the rest of North America. However, there was pushback from the medical establishment.
When drinking essiac tea, the right dosages must be chosen carefully for one’s condition, because excessive amounts of tea can cause negative side effects.

Essiac Tea’s Health Benefits
Studies have shown that essiac tea has antioxidant, immunostimulant and anti-inflammatory capabilities. It appeared to have greater antioxidant activity compared to red wine, green and black tea, and cocoa. Researchers noted that it stimulates granulocyte phagocytosis, increases CD8+ cell activation, and inhibits inflammation in the body.

Ingredients of Essiac tea are
Sheep sorrel — antioxidant-rich herb targets cancer cells and significantly lowers risk of cancer development.
Burdock root — has apoptotic effects on cancerous cells which avoid apoptosis, natural and necessary death of a cell. Animal studies showed that compound benzaldehyde found in this herb helped inhibit tumours.
Indian rhubarb root — It not only has anti-inflammatory properties, but anticancer properties.
Slippery elm — reduces inflammation, detoxifies the body, helps treat respiratory infections.
Patients who were told there was no hope by their doctors were able to cure themselves from cancer consuming Essiac tea.
Nurse Caisse never stopped helping her patients despite attacks to her reputation. She was blamed for treating people without a license and was dragged into court many times. The fact she wasn’t charging for her tea was the only thing that kept her out of jail as she was not getting any money for her activity.
Thousands of people who were told nothing could be done to treat their disease, swear by the results they got from this Essiac tea recipe. When people beat what is considered unsurvivable, uncurable cancer, patients and their families desperately seek for aids that helped them do that.

Essiac tea has proven safe for all but it is not advisable for pregnant or nursing women. For best results, the ingredients should be bought individually and tea prepared at home by the patient himself or a member of his family.

Ingredients in Essiac Tea Recipe:
• 1 ½ pounds (680g) cut burdock root (Arctium lappa is a natural blood detoxifier)
• 1 pound (454g) powdered sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella is a powerful antioxidant)
• ¼ pound (113g) powdered slippery elm (Ulmus fulva is a powerful antioxidant)
• 1 ounce powdered Turkish (Indian) rhubarb root (Rheum pamatum is a phytochemical that is naturally astringent, anti-microbial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory)
Directions to Make Essiac Tea
• Mix all four herbs thoroughly, store in a tightly sealed glass container and keep in a dark place away from light
• For a quart (1.1 litre) of tea, you need 1 ounce (28g) of herbal blend
• For a gallon (4.5 litre) of tea, you need 4 ounces (113g) of herbal blend
• Pour desired amount of water to a rolling boil in a steel or cast iron pot for 15 minutes
• Cover with a lid and steep at least 12 hours
• The following day, reheat the water not allowing it to boil
• Allow to settle, then strain out herbs (there will be sediment in the bottom)
• Pour into glass or ceramic container, seal it tightly and leave to cool down.
• Keep the tea in the fridge and use as recommended (sweetened with honey or natural sugar to taste)
For maintaining health, drink ½ ounce of tea in two ounces of water once daily. Rene Caisse suggested the tea to be taken before bed on an empty stomach. To cure cancer completely, gradually increase consumption of Essiac tea to 1 ounce of tea in 2 ounces of water once per day. The tea can be consumed cold or hot with more water added for a milder flavour. Nurse Caisse cautioned against overdosing the tea in hope of better or faster results.
Essiac tea is a natural, well-tolerated holistic treatment so powerful against cancer that it should be used much more widely.
